Windfarm Generation
Design
Electrical Power Solutions have experience in designing the Windfarm Generation sites to meet all local and National Standards. The scope of design includes HV and LV Cable Calculations, Earthing Assessments and House Supplies.
The Windfarm Generation sites are designed so that in both normal and abnormal conditions there is no danger to persons arising from earth potential in any place to which they have legitimate access. The installation will be able to pass the maximum current from any fault back to the system neutral without establishing dangerous potential gradients in the ground or dangerous potential drops between parts of the substation with which a person may be in simultaneous contact.
Project Management
Electrical Power Solutions have experience in project managing the Electrical and Civil works of Windfarm Generation Projects. The experience gained working with both Electrical and Civil works ensures that all the works are co-ordinated to ensure smooth workflow of the project and any unnecessary delays are avoided. The risks of the project are assessed and cross referenced with the method statements to ensure that all employees working on the Landfill Generation Sites are fully aware of all risks associated with the task.
Civil works at a Windfarm Generation site can include trenching of over several kilometres route length, so It’s imperative that the works are co-ordinated closely with the local farmer who can ensure that any livestock nearby are not close to the trenching works in hand. Because most windfarm sites are located on grazing land, it’s essential that the works are carried out efficiently to minimise disruption.
Installation
Electrical Power Solutions employees have experience of installation works at Windfarm Generation Sites all across the UK and Ireland. The installation works include off-loading the large plant, e.g. Transformers and large Cable drums. The earthing installation complies with all National and Local standards as outlined in the Earthing System Design Report. Detailed Risk assessments and method statements are issued to all site operatives to ensure that they are fully aware of all the hazards associated with the Windfarm generation Site.
The Building Services (heating, lighting, small power) are installed to 16th edition Wiring Regulations and meet the Regional Electric Companies additional requirements (extra heating, lighting etc.)
The earthing installation includes bare earth conductor laid in the bottom of all cable trenches. Local earthing systems are adopted at each turbine and met mast location to meet the National and Local standards and also the minimum standards set by the Turbine Manufacturer.
Testing & Commissioning
The HV and LV works are commissioned to meet all National and Local standards. G.59 testing is witnessed by the Regional Electric Company to ensure correct operation of the Turbine Generator Protection under fault conditions. All commissioning works are carried out using up to date calibrated test equipment and all results are recorded and stored in the Health & Safety Files.
Operation & Maintenance
Electrical Power Solutions employees have extensive experience in Operation & Maintenance of Windfarm Generation Projects all over the UK.
Maintenance of the Windfarm Generation sites includes Electrical Insulating Oil analysis to ensure the integrity of the Oil and it’s suitability for continued use in the transformers. The Electrical Insulating Oil in the Transformers need regular testing because of the natural rising levels of Hydrogen and Acetylene through normal use. Early detection of problems can also be identified by regular Electrical Insulating Oil analysis.
