EPS Construction Ltd. High Voltage Switchgear Installation & Maintenance

Services

Within Electrical Power Solutions we have staff that benefit from years of experience working for Regional Electricity and Electrical Contracting Companies, having held posts requiring Competent, Authorised and Senior Authorised Engineer roles.

This experience ensures that they are fully conversant with High and Low voltage operational procedures and the requirements of the Electrical Distribution Safety rules.

We are therefore able to offer the following services, in the knowledge that the works will be completed to the highest standards:

  • Metering & instrumentation
  • LV/HV underground cabling
  • LV/HV cable jointing
  • Low voltage switchgear installation and maintenance
  • High voltage switchgear installation and maintenance
  • Transformer installation testing and commissioning up to 33kV
  • Soil resistivity/earth testing to aid earth system design
  • Earthing system design and installation
  • Protection system design, installation, testing and commissioning
  • Manufacture and wiring of Transformer and switchgear protection panels
  • Manufacture and wiring of remote indications and control panels
  • Generation projects design, installation, testing and commissioning, in particular wind farm and land fill gas electrical systems
  • Performing studies into load flow, voltage profile, fault level, transient stability etc.
  • Provision of HV personnel to carry out switching, testing and commissioning of new and existing networks
  • High voltage cable fault location and repair work

HV Switchgear Commissioning

Installation Checks

Tightness Checks

Tightness checks to ensure that all terminals in the panel have been tightened correctly. Tightness checks or the terminals include the following items: Relays, Ammeters, Control Handles, Transducers, CT Rail, Telecontrol Rail, Bus-wire Terminal Rail, Control Wire Terminal, Multi-core cable rail and PE rail.

Insulation Resistance Measurements

The switchgear multi-core wiring is tested to ensure the integrity of the insulation resistance between the circuits. All insulation Resistance values are measured and noted in the appropriate test form.

Ductor Testing

Ductor testing between panels to ensure that all bus-bar connections have been tightened correctly. The test is conducted with the circuit breaker closed and with each disconnector closed to ensure the integrity of both bus-bars (for a ‘Main’ and ‘Reserve’ bus-bar system). Ductor testing is also carried out between the earth connections between the panels to ensure the integrity of the earth bar.

Secondaries

Fault current is injected onto the incoming terminals of the switchgear and test equipment is connected to the outgoing current transformers to ensure that the correct ratio has been applied.

VT Ratio

Voltage is injected across the VT to ensure that that the correct ratio has been applied.

Pressure Testing

The switchgear is tested at twice the rated voltage for 1min to check for earth leakage current. The Isolators and circuit breakers are tested and an insulation resistance test is performed prior to testing and also after testing.

Mag. Curves

Mag curve diagrams and the knee-point of the current transformers are produced from specialist test equipment.
